Asserting complete supremacy, Orissa inflicted an innings and 209-run win over Tripura on the penultimate day of their four-day East Zone match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttacck today. This was the 25th overall win, 14th by innings margin in 139 Ranji Trophy matches for Orissa. Against Tripura, this was Orissas 10th win, ninth by innings in 11 matches so far.
Put into bat by Orissa captain Ranjib Biswal, Tripura were bowled out for 141 on the opening day. Making an impressive debut, Orissa leg-spinner Shahid Ali Khan bagged five wickets for 42 runs, while captain Biswal captured the other five, conceding 54 runs.
In reply, host Orissa built a run mountain before declaring at 521 for six. Shiv Sundar Das hit a career-best 178 (202 balls, 17x4), while Prasanta Mohapatra slammed 105 (153 balls, 11x4, 1x6). Sanjay Raul and Manojit Bhatt also joined the run-feast, scoring 71 and 68 respectively.
After conceding a massive lead of 380 runs, Tripura suffered the innings defeat by getting all out for 171 in the second innings. Khan added three more wickets to his first-innings effort to finish with match haul of eight for 77. Prasant Mohapatra passed 1000 Ranji Trophy runs in this match.
